Juvenile faces weapons charges in Long Branch

LONG BRANCH — City police responded to a Second Avenue home June 9 on a report of a man with a gun. Upon arrival, police spoke with the caller, an 18-year-old female.

According to a press release from the Long Branch Police Department, two separate groups of mostly juvenile females were involved in an ongoing dispute. On June 9, there was an allegation that a male friend of one of the groups pointed a gun at the other group of females as they drove past a residence. Police spoke to all involved parties. There were no reported injuries and no weapon was recovered, the press release stated.

A subsequent investigation by Detective Juan H. Vasquez led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male juvenile from Asbury Park on June 11. A gun, a .38-caliber revolver alleged to have been involved in the June 9 incident, was also recovered.

The juvenile was charged with numerous weapons offenses and aggravated assault. He was taken to the Monmouth County Youth Detention Center, Freehold Township.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Long Branch Street Crimes Officer Ramon Camacho assisted Vasquez with the investigation.
