      Traffic signal activated

WEST LONG BRANCH — The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and local officials flipped the switch to turn on a recently completed transportation project at Wall Street (County Route 32) and Locust Avenue (County Route 15) Tuesday, Nov. 24.

According to a press release from the county, the project involved more than replacing a traffic signal; it entailed geometric improvements and pavement widening along Wall Street to accommodate left-turn lanes at the intersection. In addition, new storm drainage facilities have been installed, as well as new curbing, sidewalk, crosswalks and accessible ramps at the intersection. The new traffic signal will operate more efficiently and also include separate pedestrian signals in addition to incorporating state-of-the-art equipment utilizing video vehicle detection; a battery backup system; and energy-saving LED signal heads, according to county officials.

The project was designed by CMX Engineering of Manalapan, with direction and inspection from the Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering. The project was built by Star of the Sea Concrete Corp., South River, at a cost of $640,000.
