Students research love at Mon U

JIM REME Kaitlin Weldon, Dr. Gary Lewandowski and Csilla Greiner participate in a Monmouth University project to research love.
WEST LONG BRANCH — Seven Monmouth University undergraduate students are conducting research on love and intimate relationships this semester. The students are assisting Dr. Gary Lewandowski with his research on the social psychology of romantic relationships.

Lewandowski's Close Relationship Research Lab studies love, attraction, break-up, infidelity and the confluence of the self and relationships.

"Students gain research experience and build their résumés," Lewandowski said. "We collaborate in the conception, design, data collection, analysis, and ultimate presentation and/or publication of the data."

Students help with research, co-author papers in academic journals, obtain grant funding

and present at major research conferences, according to a press release from Monmouth University.

Recent research results have been published in academic journals and mentioned in national magazines such as Self magazine, Ladies Home Journal and United Press International.

Students start their research assistantships as volunteers and can earn credits through independent studies. The experience helps students learn more about the science of psychology and helps prepare them for graduate school, according to the release.
