Athletic director steps down after 19 years

The former Long Branch Public Schools Athletic Director Charles B. Ferrara (r) with his son Chuck.
LONG BRANCH - More than 30 administrators, managers and directors of the Long Branch Public Schools gathered last week to say farewell to a longtime coworker and friend.

Charles B. Ferrara held the position of athletic director in the district for 19 years, and in June, he accepted a new job at a new district.

"Contrary to what people are saying, I was not fired," Ferrara said. "I was not caught doing anything wrong.

"I left on my own accord for a new position with many new challenges," he said, adding, "I will bleed green and white, and Long Branch will always be a big part of my life and memories.

"I had an opportunity to undertake a new challenge in a bigger district and could not pass it up," Ferrara said.

Ferrara accepted the position of athletic director at Franklin Township, according to a press release from the Long Branch Public Schools.

Long Branch Superintendent of Schools Joseph M. Ferraina commented that through the years, Ferrara was committed to his department.

"Chuck was very conscious of what was needed and what the future needs would be and was very good at getting his view across," Ferraina said.
