Homeowner sounds off against Schneider's radio talk Ijust listened to the Sunday morning talk show that had Mayor Adam Schneider of Long Branch on. I tuned in when he was talking about the "disingenuous" homeowners. I am appalled that a mayor could go on live radio and say so many incorrect statements and there was no one from the MTOTSA neighborhood to get their side of the story heard by the public!
I am writing to get our story heard!
There have never been negotiations with the city to save our neighborhood! They offered residents the option to have first crack at a condo, which many of us do not want anyway, but whatever they appraised our homes for would go toward the condo and the difference would have to be obtained with a mortgage! Some which would have been as high as 300K plus in mortgages! We have senior citizens whose homes are paid off - why would they put themselves in that position? Why would we want a condo, when we have patios and porches that entertain 15-25 people comfortably, we have yards where our dogs can run and our kids can play, where we can plant our gardens, etc.? Why would anyone voluntarily give that up?
The mayor was the one who told us that there were no plans for our neighborhood and that there may never be! He said that to a group of us! I went to a meeting in city hall in 1996 when they said our neighborhood was going to be "infill"! We were lied to the entire way, so for the mayor to say we always knew what was going to happen is plain BS!
I appreciate 107.1's host saying our neighborhood was a nice one. Our neighborhood was a perfect American neighborhood in 1995, when the redevelopment started and we hope to continue to be. We hope that the appellate court will show N.J. that you cannot just come in and take peoples' homes and neighborhoods just because someone thinks they have better idea for the property! If they rule against our quaint beachfront community then no one's home in N.J. will ever be safe from eminent domain abuse. God help us all if that ever happens!
