Eighth annual ChessFest slated for Sept. 27

Prevention First, Ocean Township, will host the eighth annual ChessFest Sept. 27 in Asbury Park. The event will benefit the approximately 14,000 youth and adult participants worldwide.

It is also geared to set a new Guinness record for the most chess games played simultaneously in one location. The festival attracts several of the world's finest chess players. Pre-event chess-related festivities are planned for the week prior to the event and include a movie, a play and other activities. The primary goal of ChessFest is for children to develop an interest in chess, and develop logic, reasoning and problem-solving abilities, memory and concentration, visualization skills, critical thinking, patience and determination.
