OCEAN TOWNSHIP - A 68-yearold township woman was hospitalized last week after she and her husbandwere struck by a school bus while attempting to cross a road.

On April 30 at approximately 8:42 a.m., police received a report of a pedestrian accident involving a school bus, according to police reports.

Ocean Township Police Patrolman John Green arrived on the scene and discovered that Charles Griffitts, 73, and hiswife, JuneGriffitts, 68, both of Ocean Township, had been attempting to crossWhalepond Road when they were struck by a school bus, authorities said.

Ocean Township Police Sgt. Gerald Spakarkel said that the bus driver, Calvin Plummer, 60, made a "bad turn" and struck the couple. Plummer is a driver for Ocean Township-based Seman-Tov Inc. bus company.

There was no evidence of alcohol involvement in the accident and Plummer submitted to a consensual blood test, Spakarkel said.

Charles Griffitts received minor injuries.

The school bus had no passengers at the time of the accident and the accident remains under investigation.
