NOTES AROUND TOWN

Students from the Vetter School in Eatontown walked in the shadow of local presidential history at the Church of the Presidents in the Elberon section of Long Branch. Members of the Long Branch Historical Museum Association talked to students about the seven presidents who vacationed in Long Branch during the Gilded Age. The church building is currently closed for renovations while work is under way to restore the building.
The Ocean Township Library, 701 Deal Road, will present "Arts Wednesdays" during May. The program "100% Dance" with Kim Menna will be held May 14 and will feature a demonstration and audience dance. Noah Gilson, M.D., will discuss digital photography on May 21. Artist Gail Flug Joseph will give instruction on working with acrylic paints on May 28. Programs during June include writing exercises led by author DianeHara on June 4, and performance and instructional techniques in music will be led by Judy Peckmore on June 11. A reception to introduce the photography exhibit of Sandy Cook,Wayside section of Ocean Township, will be held May 18 at 2 p.m. at Terner Gallery, 701 Deal Road, Ocean. "A Photographic Journey of the Local Region, Alaska, Tuscany & Exotic Critters" includes 38 pieces from his collection. The Jaws Circle of St. Luke's United Methodist Church will hold a yard saleMay 30 and 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 35 Manitto Place, Oceanport (rain dates June 6 and 7). All proceeds benefit the church.

Eatontown Post 325 of the American Legion will hold a fundraiser May 9 from 7-10 p.m. for disadvantaged children, and to supply scholarship programs. The wine and cheese tasting will be held at American Legion Post 346, 21 Gully Road, Neptune. The wine staff at Ocean Wine & Spirits will be at the event, which will feature several wines and cheeses. Tickets are $20 per person. Volunteers from Ladacin Network, Oceana Township, joined employees from Supreme Asset Management & Recovery, Lakewood, to accept unused electronics and $5 donations for Ladacin at the Lehmann School, Lakewood, during an Earth Day recycling event and fundraiser. Ladacin is a nonprofit organization that provides education, therapy, social, residential and support services for individuals with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities.

American Legion Auxiliary No. 346, Neptune Township, will hold a garage sale/flea market May 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its post, 21 Gully Road, Neptune. Table space is $15 for a 10-foot space, and vendors must bring their own tables. For more information, call Jean at (732) 804- 4962.

Trips to Atlantic City are scheduled for May 2, June 9, July 14 and Aug. 11, from 9:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The cost is $25, with a $25 return plus a food voucher. St. James Church, 300 Broadway, Long Branch, installed the Rev. Valerie T. Redpath as its 15th rector May 4 in a ceremony known as a Celebration of New Ministry. Rev. Redpath, Toms River, was installed by the Right Rev. George E. Councell, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese ofNew Jersey. The reverend received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing fromSetonHall University, South Orange, and has served several congregations along the Jersey Shore prior to coming to St. James.

AMother's Day tea will take place May 10 at 12:30 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 61 Atlantic Ave., Long Branch. The event will feature a program by Shore Senior Legend Showcase with music from Patsy Cline, Frank Sinatra and others. There will also be tea sandwiches, dessert and tea.
