Rita's Italian Ice of Eatontown on Route 35 is celebrating its grand opening on May 3 and will be giving all guests a free, regular size Italian ice between noon and 5 p.m. The Rita's Ice Guy mascot will be present for pictures and there will also be face painting for children, a DJ and free giveaways throughout the afternoon. The Eatontown Lions Club and the Jersey Shore Running Club will co-sponsor the annual Sandy Hook Lighthouse 5K Fun Run/Walk for the Blind May 3 at 9:30 a.m. beginning on SandyHook. Check-in time is 8 a.m. The entry fee is $25 and includes a Tshirt. Awards will be presented to the top five male and top five female runners. Proceeds will benefit New Jersey Blind Citizens Association and Camp Happiness, Leonardo section ofMiddletown, which provides services to New Jersey blind/visually impaired adults and children. The Liberty Science Center representatives visited the Long Branch Audrey W. Clark Elementary School on April 18. The audience of third- and fourth-graders were invited to become meteorologists as they explored the wonders of the weather during an assembly. The students helped simulate a thunderstorm and recreated rain and thunder sounds.

Monmouth Beach School PTA and Jersey Shore Running Club will host its 14th annual three-mile run May 10 at 9 a.m. Race-day registration ($20, and $15, respectively) will be at 8 a.m. at Griffin Street Memorial Park.
