Two youths charged with damaging cars

LONG BRANCH - Two juveniles are facing 18 counts of criminal mischief for allegedly smashing in the windshields of parked cars at the city train station.

On April 16, city police responded to the train station on Third Avenue after receiving a report that two males were causing damage to parked vehicles.

A

concerned citizen called police to

report that two juvenile boys were smashing out the windshields to parked cars, according to reports.

A description of the two accused was dispatched to responding units and officers located a 12-year-old male and a 13-year-old male fitting the descriptions, authorities said.

The two accused were taken into custody and an investigation by the police department revealed that 18 vehicles had been damaged between April 8 and April 16 throughout the city.O

f the 18 damaged vehicles, 13 were damaged at the train station parking lot on April 16, authorities said.

The juveniles would stomp on the hoods of the vehicles causing dents and then stomp out the front windshield, authorities said.

The two juveniles are being charged with 18 counts of criminal mischief and were released to their parents pending a court hearing.
