MS group seeking to raise funds

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - Following a successful show of support for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) awareness last Sunday, the Mid Jersey Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is continuing to accept donations to fund programs associated with MS.

Donations will be accepted until June. For more information on making a donation, visit http://njm.nationalmssociety. org.

Ocean Township resident Dennis Huntley, a volunteer with the Mid Jersey Chapter, will be hosting an MS self-help group every third Saturday of the month.

The group is called Making Connections. For more information on making donations for the MS cause, visit the group's Web site at www.teammakingconnections. com.

Huntley's group participated in the Walk MS event held April 13 to raise funds for MS research and awareness.

"Forty cents on the dollar goes to research, and more importantly, a lot of the money goes to local programs that provide education, assistance with medical needs and many resources to help out everyone with MS," Huntley said.

MS is an autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack the central nervous system. The disease generally affects sensory or motor functions, which can cause numbness, tremors, vision loss, paralysis, loss of balance and painful muscle spasms.
