NOTES AROUND TOWN

Six journalism students from the Long Branch High School traveled to New York City on April 2 as invited guests of Bill O'Reilly, host of "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News.

The students had the opportunity to interview O'Reilly and were also invited into the control room as the program was recorded.

"This is an experience that these aspiring journalists will never forget," said Long Branch Superintendent of Schools Joseph M. Ferraina.

"Having the ability to sit down and talk with Mr. O'Reilly and watching how the show is produced is an educational experience that is unmatched.

High school students Katie Adams of Rumson and Stephanie Tomasetta of Freehold founded Cinderella's Closet of Monmouth County to help make prom gowns, tuxedos and accessories accessible to underprivileged students. A prom boutique will be held April 12 at Ocean Place Resort and Spa, Long Branch,where studentswill have a personal shopper to help select an outfit fromhundreds of dresses, suits and accessories available for the special night. The nonprofit Cinderella's Closet is a volunteer organization that collects new and gently used formalwear suitable for proms and provides outfits to underprivileged high school students throughout Monmouth County. Members of Peace@Monmouth and START (Students TakingAction& Responsibility Today) are scheduled to host an event to promote peace tonight from 12:30- 2:30 p.m. outside the Rebecca Stafford Student Center on the Monmouth University campus in West Long Branch.

National Library Week will be celebrated with several free programs at the Long Branch Free Public Library April 13- 19. The children's book club will meet April 14 at 6 p.m. Toddler story time for children ages 1-2 with an adult will be held April 15 at 10:30 a.m., and Kidz Club for school-age children will meet at 4 p.m. Story time will be held April 16 at 4:45 p.m. at the Elberon Branch at 168 Lincoln Ave. Story time will also be heldApril 17 at 4 p.m. at themain library. "Teen Tech Time" is set forApril 17 at 4 p.m. at the main library computer lab. Toddler story time will be held April 18 at 10 a.m. at Elberon. Kids drop-in will take place April 19 from noon to 5 p.m. at the main library. The second annual "Shore Seniors Legend Showcase" fundraiser will be held at the main libraryApril 19 from 2- 5 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase. The main library is at 328 Broadway. The Greater Ocean Township Democratic Club is opening its campaign to recruit new members and is appealing to all residents of Greater Ocean Township who want to help the Democratic Party win offices in county, state and national elections. Positions are now open for committeemen and committeewomen in some districts. The third annual "Woolley House 5K Walk/Run" sponsored by The Ocean Township PTA and the Historical Museum will be heldMay 10 at 9 a.m. at Joe Palaia Park. Proceeds benefit the Eden Woolley House renovation, which will be the new home of the Museum. Preregistration is $15. Individuals preregistered by April 11 will receive a T-shirt. (May also register up to the day of the event beginning at 8 a.m., but with no T-shirt.) Children 12 and younger are free if accompanied by a registered parent or guardian, but will not be guaranteed a T-shirt.
