Asbury woman charged with check forgery

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - An Asbury Park woman is facing forgery charges for attempting to cash a fraudulent check at an Ocean Township bank.

On March 21 at approximately 2:26 p.m., police were called to Provident Bank in the Middlebrook Shopping Plaza on Route 35 in response to a female customer trying to cash a $65,000 fraudulent check at the bank, according to police reports.

Officers were informed by bank employees that Brenda L. Foster, 50, was attempting to cash a check that was found to be originated in Nigeria, forwarded to Canada and then passed on to the accused, authorities said.

Upon investigation, police learned that Foster had attempted to deposit a $1,750 check into her account in February, according to police.

Ocean Township police arrested and charged Foster with endorsing a fraudulent check and uttering a forged document, authorities said.
