Pope John to host 5K & luncheon

Pope John XXIII Regional Catholic School, formerly St.Mary of theAssumption School, is conducting its second annual Pope John XXIII 5K Run/Walk at Joe Palaia Park in Ocean Township on April 12 at 10 a.m.

The event will consist of a 5K race, fitness walk and kiddie dashes of varying short distances.All participants in the event will receive a long-sleeve T-shirt.

This year's race is being held in honor of the active military. Race participants are asked to bring an item that can be donated to the military. Collected items will be sent to troops overseas.

The PTA of Pope John XXIII is preparing for its annual "Spring Luncheon & Gift Auction, ADay in Tuscany," which is set for April 20 fromnoon to 4 p.m. at the Sheraton in Eatontown.

Tickets for the event cost $40 for adults, $30 for seniors and $25 for children. A cash bar will be available and for more information, call Patty Lynch at (732) 915-8653.

Businesses and individuals interested in donating gifts or services for the event can also contact Lynch.

Proceeds fromthe event will benefit Pope John XXIII Regional Catholic School and will be used to improve the classroom facilities and educational equipment.
