OCEAN TOWNSHIP - The National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Mid Jersey Chapter is scheduled to host its 20th annual "Walk MS" on April 12 at nine locations throughout central Jersey.
Event organizers for the walk are seeking donations to help provide research for Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Ocean Township resident and volunteer with theMid Jersey Chapter, Dennis Huntley, said.
"Forty cents on the dollar goes to research and more importantly a lot of the money goes to local programs that provide education, assistance with medical needs and many resources to help out everyone with MS," Huntley said.
He added that approximately 10,000 people are expected to participate in the walk, which is planned to be held at several locations, including Sandy Hook, Freehold, Belmar and Edison.
Huntley, who was diagnosed withMS in 2003, explained that he and othermembers of the Mid Jersey Chapter will be participating in the 6-mile-long Belmar walk.
"We will be walking along the beachfront down to Spring Lake, then back to Belmar.
"It is a beautiful site with the throngs of people walking along the beach, everyone with a different reason for being there but all with a common goal," he said.
In addition to volunteering with theNational Multiple Sclerosis Society's Mid Jersey Chapter, Huntley also hosts a self-help group in the Wayside section of Ocean Township.
The group, called "Making Connections," meets every third Saturday of the Month, Huntley said.
