Man charged for leaving scene of 3-car accident

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - A Neptune City man was arrested after fleeing from the scene of a three-car accident at the intersection of Deal and Logan roads.

At approximately 4:47 p.m. on Feb. 27, John M. Higginbotham, 42, of Neptune City, was stopped at a red light on the Deal Road.

While stopped, Higginbotham was rear-ended by another vehicle, which caused his car to lurch forward into another car that was stopped in front of him at the light, according to reports.

Higginbotham proceeded to leave the scene of the accident and headed west on Deal Road toward Route 35, according to reports.

The driver of one of the other vehicles involved in the accident called police to make a report and said that one of the cars had left the scene.

A description of Higginbotham's vehicle was given to police and police found him in the car in the parking lot of the Oakhurst Fire Department on Deal Road.

Higginbotham was charged with driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident, according to reports.

Police also learned that Higginbotham had an active warrant out for his arrest from the Ocean County Sheriff 's Office.
