Man faces charges following car chase

EATONTOWN - A Tinton Falls man is facing drugs and weapons charges after he allegedly fled from a motor vehicle stop and led police on a chase through the borough.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. on Feb. 29, Eatontown Detective Edward Nelson initiated a motor vehicle stop on Route 35 near the Monmouth Mall, according to reports.

The car was being operated by Joshua Cooper, 19, who fled from the motor vehicle stop in the vehicle and continued to travel on Route 35, toward Weston Place.

While trying to escape police during a vehicle chase, Cooper was in a car accident, lost control of the car and came to a rest at the intersection of Route 35 and Weston Place, according to police reports.

Cooper was arrested and charged with multiple motor vehicle violations and eluding police, according to reports.

Cooper was taken to the Eatontown Police Department for processing and was transported to theMonmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township. His bail was set at $20,000.

As a result of the arrest, a search warrant was obtained onMarch 3 for Cooper's vehicle. Police uncovered a .38-caliber handgun, over 3.5 ounces of marijuana, packaging supplies, a scale and $2,680 in cash in the vehicle, according to reports.

Cooper was additionally charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of narcotic paraphernalia, according to reports.

Cooper is currently being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $75,000 bail, according to reports.
