Teen faces drunken-driving charges

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - A 17-year-old female was arrested last week for driving while intoxicated and three other minors who were passengers in the car are facing underage drinking and drug charges.

Ocean Township police received a call from a Lakewood Avenue resident on Feb. 17 at approximately 5:14 p.m. who reported that a group of teenagers were throwing beer cans from a parked car, according to police reports.

When police arrived on the scene, the vehicle was no longer parked at the Lakewood Avenue site, according to reports. The vehicle was located traveling on Sunset Avenue and police conducted a traffic stop, according to reports.

Police arrested the 17-year-old driver and charged her with driving while intoxicated, according to reports.

Police also observed three passengers and empty beer cans inside the car, according to reports, which state that police also arrested a 16-year-old male passenger and two 17-year-old male passengers.

It was also discovered that the 16-yearold male had been reported missing by his parents on Feb. 15. All three passengers were found to have consumed alcohol, and the threeminors were charged with underage drinking in a vehicle, according to police reports.

One of the 17-year-old male passengers was also found to be in possession of a glass pipe, commonly used for smoking marijuana, according to reports.

The four suspects were released later that night to the custody of their parents, according to reports.
