Two suspects jump from car

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - Police are searching for two suspects who jumped out of amoving vehicle on Route 35 when an officer was attempting to pull the car over.

Ocean Township Police Officer Jeffrey Malone was patrolling in the area of Route 35 and Deal Road when he witnessed a 2003 green Ford Explorer drive through a red light on Route 35 south on Feb. 16 at approximately 11:23 p.m., according to police reports.

Malone followed the Explorer and attempted to stop it in front of the Middlebrook Plaza on Route 35 when the Explorer abruptly pulled to the shoulder of the highway and continued to travel slowly. The driver and the front-seat passenger in the car opened the vehicle's doors and jumped from the moving car as the Explorer continued to move down the highway in gear, according to reports.

Malone maneuvered his patrol car into the Explorer to bring it to a stop as the two suspects fled the scene on foot, according to reports.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any information about the suspects, is asked to contact Detective Patrick Martin at (732) 531-1800.

Further investigation revealed that the Explorer was reported stolen out of Asbury Park on Feb. 8 and had fictitious license plates displayed on it, according to reports.

Township police were assisted by the Tinton Falls Police Department K-9 unit to find the two suspects, but the search was unsuccessful, according to reports.

The driver of the vehicle is described as a young black male who was wearing a yellow winter coat at the time of the crime, according to reports. The unknown passenger was wearing all dark clothing.

The two suspects were last seen in the area of the Middlebrook Plaza, according to reports.
