Wilbur Ray Award winners announced
Brookdale Community College (BCC) will hold its annualWilbur Ray Scholarship dinner March 14 at 6 p.m. at Branches, Monmouth Road, West Long Branch.
Awards are presented in six categories and one organization: business service, education service, community service, government service, criminal justice service, health care service and community service organization. Business Service Award winner is Robert J. Harrison, Asbury Park, chairman and publisher of Harrison Communications LLC and ShoreAfricanAmerican magazine.
The Rev. Sandra Manuel and Euphraties Project Inc., Asbury Park, are the recipients of the Community Service Organization Award. Bette Ivory of Lunch Break, Red Bank, and Gail Oliver andMidtown Urban Renaissance Corp., Neptune, are recipients of the Community Service Award. The Criminal Justice ServiceAward will be bestowed upon the Rev. Evelyn Hines, women's inmate counselor at Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township.
Avery W. Grant, member of the Long Branch Board of Education, and Cecelia Harrington, Neptune, a teacher at Neptune's Green Grove Elementary School, are recipients of the Education Service Award. The Government ServiceAward will be presented to Carl Jennings, Long Branch, director of Recreation and Human Services for the City of Long Branch; and Carolyn Ellington, Neptune, administrator of program services for Monmouth County Division of Employment and Training.
Recipients of the Healthcare Service Award are Marta Cuellar Silverberg, Long Branch, executive director, Monmouth Family Health Center; and Louise Shrivers, Long Branch, coordinator of the office of volunteer services at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.
Outstanding Student Awards will be presented to James Brandon, Neptune, BCC student ambassador; Ogugua Osefoh, Atlantic Highlands, co-president of the Black Student Union; Stella Mensah, Parlin, co-president; and Anabel Rosario, Asbury Park, recipient of the Wilbur Ray Scholarship.
