Vanishing beauty
An exhibit of environmental photography of uncommon beauty by Laury Egan, Valerie Craig and Jean Finnila is at the Frederick Gallery in Allenhurst.

"Vanishing Beauty of Land and Sea: Photographic Contemplations" will open March 1 and run through April 19 at the gallery, located at 111Main St. inAllenhurst.An opening reception will be held Saturday, March 1, 7-9 p.m.

The 38 large archival photographs feature images of Sandy Hook, Raritan Bay estuaries, neighboring areas and other wild areas. In keeping with this environmental celebration, a portion of show sales will benefit the NY/NJ Baykeeper.

Baykeeper Andrew Willner will speak at the gallery on Saturday, March 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. with Dave Grant, director of Brookdale Community College's Ocean Institute at Sandy Hook. The public is invited to attend both events.

Egan has exhibited widely throughout New Jersey and teaches photography at her Highlands home.

After a lifelong study of drawing, painting and writing, Craig, Middletown, traded her easel for a camera, tripod and a pair of hiking boots.. Response to her work at a 2007 show at the gallery inspired her to undertake a project to artistically portray the Bayshore watershed system.

Finnila's interest in photography has flourished into a serious undertaking. She has studied with Egan for several years and has exhibited at the gallery in a solo exhibit and in a group show.
