Area teens plan for text-message fundraiser

| Local teens are joining forces on Feb. 28 for a text-message benefit to raise funds for the David S. Zocchi Brain Tumor Center at MonmouthMedical Center in Long Branch.
Teens participating in the fundraiser gathered at the hospital on Feb. 7 for a kickoff party to prepare for the "Text for 10" event planned to be held at the end of the month.
"Text for 10" will consist of 100 teams of 10 tweens and teens to each team. Each teammember will guarantee aminimumof 10 pledges to text the day of the event and each pledge that is texted will make a minimum
donation of $10 each. Each team has appointed two co-captains
and the co-captains attended the kickoff party last week to organize for the text-message fundraiser.
The co-captains and their teams are planned to gather at seven locations, including Surf Taco restaurants and theMonmouthMedical Center Cafeteria on Feb. 28. The members of the teams will simultaneously text their pledges for donations at 6 p.m. that evening.
The teens are expected to raise more than $100,000 from the fundraiser.
