DVRT volunteer training to begin April 28

180-Turning LivesAround, Hazlet, will conduct a mandatory 40-hour training for Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) volunteers Mondays-Wednesdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m., April 28-May 22 at the Monmouth County Police Academy, Freehold.

Volunteer advocates work in conjunction with the police to provide support, information, and referrals to victims of domestic violence at police headquarters. The advocates also discuss with the victim their legal rights in regard to obtaining a temporary restraining order. Advocate identities are kept anonymous.

Applicants must 18 or older, have access to transportation, possess a valid driver's license, be willing to serve on an on-call shift basis, and submit to background investigations and fingerprinting.

For an application, contact the police departments in the following municipalities: Aberdeen, Colts Neck, Eatontown, Fair Haven, Freehold, Hazlet, Holmdel, Keyport, Little Silver, Long Branch, Manalapan, Matawan, Middletown, Monmouth Beach, Oceanport, Red Bank, Rumson, Sea Bright, Shrewsbury, Tinton Falls and West Long Branch.
