Shore, Rumson girls win county relay events Shore Regional's and Rumson Fair Haven's girls picked up wins at the county relays held on Jan. 17 at theBennett IndoorComplex in Toms River, which is hosting the individual countymeet tomorrow. The Blue Devils' quartet of Jamie Pointer, Kaylee Mikolon, Ali Grandinetti and Cameo Kirk turned in their fastest time of the winter, 4:13.93, in winning by almost six seconds. Their goal is to get their time down to 4:11 to qualilfy for the Eastern States. Rumson's team of Melissa Bellin, Caitlin Britton, Leigh Ann Torcivia and Jaime Carroll produced a 4:17.75 in the 1,600-meter SprintMedley. Theywere the only teamunder 4:20. Monmouth Regional won the boy's shot put relay as Edrick Alleyne came upwith another strong performance. His 54-5was easily the best throw of the competition. With teammate Charles Johnson reached 44-1, the Golden Falcon tandem won the shot put relay with a combined 89-6. Alleyne was the only thrower over 50 feet. He's established himself as the thrower to beat tomorrow. Rumson high jumper Alex Smith has also put himself into the role of a favorite tomorrow after his 6-4 was the best at the high jump competition. Other area athletes who figure to do well at tomorrow's championships are Rumson's Bellin (400 55 hurdles) and Carroll (800), Shore's Pointer (55 dash and hurdles) and Cameo (400) and Ocean's Hannnah Boyce (high jump) and Suhail LaVecchia (shot put) for the girls. For the boys, it's Matt Bersterman (55 dash, high jump), Zach Collier (1,600,3,200) and Sean Kelly (pole vault) of Shore and Josh Rosenheck (pole vault) from Ocean. Following the county championships will be the NJSIAAsectionals being held indoors for the first time. Central Jersey I & II will compete on Feb. 10 in the morning and Central Jersey III & IV are in the afternoon. The Bennett Complex is hosting the sectionals. | |||||
