Center to offer diabetes, joint replacement talks

The Center for Diabetes Education at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, will offer a four-session diabetes self-management series Jan. 11, 18 and 25 and Feb. 1, from 9 to 11 a.m.

The series, taught by a registered dietitian/ certified diabetes educator, will focus on diet, nutrition, glucose monitoring, medications, meal plans, prevention and treatment of diabetes complications, dining out and benefits of exercise.

The center also offers specialized instruction for topics such as gestational di- abetes, counseling and free support groups. To register, call (732) 923-5025.

Monmouth orthopedic surgeon Arthur Mark, M.D., will give a presentation on total joint replacement surgery Jan. 16 from 1-3 p.m., at Boscov's auditorium, Monmouth Mall, Eatontown. He will discuss symptoms, diagnosis and surgical options including minimally invasive surgery, possible complications, recovery and the long-term benefits of total joint replacement.
