Local group to participate in state homeless survey

The Long Branch Concordance (LBC) is participating in New Jersey's 2008 Project Homeless Connect, a point in time survey of the homeless population in the state, on Jan. 29 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.T

he LBC has teamed with Monmouth County's Human Service Department to help gather resources, such as warm clothing, hot food, blankets, social services, health screenings and information to be given to individuals at the central census site for Greater Long Branch at the St. James Episcopal Church on Broadway.

The resources will provide needed aid to individuals, as well as attract the homeless population to the census site for a more accurate survey, according to a press release from the LBC.

The LBC hopes to collaborate with organizations to collect the following resources: soup, sandwiches, snacks, coffee, water, sleeping bags, towels, thermals, refillable water bottles, socks, hats, gloves, scarves, underwear and deodorant.

A

lso needed are legal and medical

services, government assistance, shelters, boarding homes and rooming houses.

The LBC is also seeking bilingual volunteers specializing in Spanish, Portuguese and Creole.
