Audubon meeting, field trip scheduled in January

The Monmouth County Audubon Society will hold its next meeting Jan. 9 at 8 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, White Street, Red Bank. The public is welcome and admission is free.

Jeffrey Hall, teacher and photographer, will discuss the whooping cranes at Aransas National Wildlife Refuse in Texas during "Whooping It Up: A Coastal Bend Weekend." Refreshments will be provided.

A field trip to Barnegat Light and the Manahawkin Wildlife Management Area will be Jan. 19 beginning at noon at Barnegat Light. Attendees may see various species of ducks, snow buntings, horned larks and other birds. After exploring the area, the group will caravan to the Dunkin' Donuts, Route 9 north, Manahawkin, at 3:30 p.m. to visit Manahawkin Wildlife Management Area and search for short-eared owls.

The free trip is open to both members and nonmembers. Attendees should dress for the weather and wear shoes suitable for jetty walking. Pets are not permitted.
