'Guns for Cash' program at L.B. police dept. this weekend
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office will be conducting a voluntary weapons surrender program, commonly known as "Guns for Cash," at the Long Branch Police Department headquarters tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Dec. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The program, which is sponsored by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders in conjunction with the Monmouth County Sheriff's Department, provides an opportunity for individuals to surrender certain unwanted weapons for cash payments.

The Prosecutor's Office will pay $100 for assault weapons, $50 for handguns and $25 for rifles and shotguns. While other weapons may be surrendered, they will not be paid for, according to a release from the Prosecutor's Office.

The program is anonymous and no questions will be asked of the individuals who surrender weapons and payment will be made in cash, according to the release.

No permit is required to transport weapons to the surrender location and weapons should be transported unloaded and in a gun case or other closed container, according to the release.

Licensed firearms dealers are not eligible for this program and a uniformed officer will be stationed outside the building in order to provide additional information and directions.

For more information, call Capt. Brian Rubino at the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office at 1-800-533-7443.
