Monmouth U fundraiser to support troops
Monmouth University radio station WMCX will host "Rock Out (Support Our Troops)" 6-11 p.m. Dec. 8 in the student center on the university's campus in West Long Branch.
The event is a fundraising concert being held in honor of Marine Christopher Cosgrove, class of 2005, who was killed in Iraq in 2006. Cosgrove, who was a resident of Cedar Knolls, served with the 25th Marines in Iraq and died on Oct. 1, 2006, in a car-bombing incident.
Tickets for the event cost $12 and can be purchased at the door, or in advance for $10 by calling Donna Mancini at (732) 571-3482.
Bands at the event will include Stealing Jane, CO2, Hollander, No Fold, Racing Kites, Hear Me Roar and Mikey Mo.
The money raised will be donated to the groups Marines Helping Marines (MHM) and Soldiers' Angels.
MHM was founded in 2003 when wounded soldiers started coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan. It provides the wounded Marines with phone cards, pants with snaps down the sides for leg amputees, electric razors, sweatpants and other items.
Soldiers' Angels sends backpacks filled with needed items to soldiers overseas.
