Preserving Takanassee a joint effort
For the record, I just want to note a minor clarification to the article of Nov. 15 regarding state preservation funds that theoretically could be applied to save the Takanassee Beach Club site from becoming a future site for luxury condos and homes. I did not reach out by myself to the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to set up the meeting with Commissioner Lisa Jackson nor with the Green Acres unit. Both efforts have been discussed and co-managed with other interested parties such as the Elberon Voters and Property Owners, Surfrider Foundation, Long Branch Mayor Adam Schneider, Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. and state Senator-elect Sean Kean.

In any event, this issue has become not only quite controversial but difficult to win politically and administratively in Trenton. I have to conclude that Gov. Jon Corzine and Commissioner Jackson will need to hear from hundreds and thousands of New Jersey residents to convince them that approval of yet one more private luxury condo on this stretch of coast is very, very bad public policy.
