Ocean Twp. man gets 11 years behind bars

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - A 42-year-old Township man was sentenced last week to serve 11 years in jail for drug charges stemming from an investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

Rodney Mack of Rustic Drive was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Edward M. Neafsey on Nov. 16 for possessing over 5 ounces of cocaine with intent to distribute, according to a press release from the prosecutor's office.

Mack was ordered to serve 62 months of the 11-year sentence before he can be considered for release on parole, according to reports.

The case was the result of a July 12, 2006 investigation conducted by the Narcotic Strike Force division of the prosecutor's office, in conjunction with the Tinton Falls and Asbury Park police departments.

During the investigation, it was learned that Mack had ordered a kilogram of cocaine from a supplier in Arlington, Texas, according to reports.

Mack had the supplier ship the cocaine via the United Parcel Service to the home of an Asbury Park woman who watched his children and told the woman that he was expecting a package containing picture frames, according to reports.

As a result of the investigation, Mack was been charged with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute over 5 ounces of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of school property, according to reports.

"As a result of these law enforcement agencies working together, this drug dealer who utilized innocent persons to facilitate the interstate transporting of drugs intended for the streets of Monmouth County has been removed from our community," Prosecutor Luis Valentin said in the release.

Mack pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute over 5 ounces of cocaine on Oct. 1, according to the release.

In exchange for his plea, the state agreed to recommend the 11-year sentence with the 62-month period of parole ineligibility, according to the release.
