City man faces charges for vandalizing cars

LONG BRANCH - A city man was arrested last week for vandalizing several parked cars in Long Branch.

Police arrested and charged Derek R. Carle, 36, with eight counts of criminal mischief, criminal attempt, drinking in public and resisting arrest Nov. 5 at approximately 12:45 a.m.

Police Officer Kristie Buble was on patrol when she observed a man in the area of Sairs Avenue throwing garbage in the middle of the street, according to police reports.

As Buble drove her patrol car toward the scene, the man jumped in front of the car, according to reports, which state that the man was later identified as Carle.

Carle told police that he had damaged several cars in the area of Avery and Second avenues, according to reports.

Upon investigation, police located eight vehicles that had been vandalized by Carle and found several of the vehicles in the area to have side-view mirrors damaged or broken.

According to reports, Carle further told police that he was depressed and that he liked to break things when he is depressed. When officers attempted to place Carle under arrest at the scene, he began to resist arrest, according to reports.

Carle was released on a summons, according to reports.
