Architect for pavilion stresses need for updates As president of the Monmouth Beach Historical Society, I have observed the development of Monmouth Beach and, in particular, the bathing facility. It was created in an emergency situation and has weathered the years quite well, adapting as events required. It now requires serious update. We are at another change point in the life of this facility and need to make wise decisions. Professional architectural research has included adapting to changes in regulations, repair of damage from the exposed location as well as need for new construction materials that were not available in the past. It is essential that these recommendations be heeded as the risk of inaction could seriously damage this facility and its income. In addition, failure to act positively on this issue could have negative impact on the real estate tax. There are some factions that reject professionally generated information and replace need for action with fear of action. This thinking places the community at risk. It is essential to recognize the need for the safety upgrade, to replace old materials with more durable ones that are now available and establish compliance with current regulations. To protect the future of the facility, it is necessary to vote yes for the needed action. Albert S. Benoist Monmouth Beach |
