Sporting event to help raise funds for kids Organizers of the eighth annual Turkey Bowl announced that The Kids Helping Kids Athletic Challenge will be held this Thanksgiving fundraising season.
The event will take place Nov. 3 from 2 to 5 p.m. at The Edge Sports Academy in Eatontown where children will have the opportunity to raise money for chronically and terminally ill children in a series of sponsored athletic challenges.
Each participant will be asked to donate a minimum of $5 to Jason's Dreams for Kids, Red Bank, and will be encouraged to seek outside sponsorship. The first 50 attendees will receive a free T-shirt. The grand prize offered to the child who raises the most money for the event will be a Nintendo Wii system.
Participants will be asked to bring a canned food item to be donated to Lunch Break in Red Bank.
The day's five events will include a 30-yard dash competition, vertical leap contest, timed obstacle course, free throw competition, and a batting competition.
Groups will be divided into boys and girls with categories for ages 6-8, 9-11, and 12-14 years. The cumulative winner of each age bracket will win two one-hour sports training sessions at The Edge Sports Academy.
The Kids Helping Kids Athletic Challenge will also serve as a registration day for the Turkey Bowl main event, which will take place Nov. 24 at Thompson Middle School in Middletown.
Founded in 2000, the Turkey Bowl has raised upwards of $150,000 and has been a supporter of JDFK since 2001. JDFK is a Red Bank charity that fulfills wishes of terminally and chronically ill children primarily in Monmouth County and throughout the state.
