Road rage leads to drug arrest

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - On Oct. 21 at 5:14 p.m, Patrolman Jeffrey Malone responded to Route 35 in reference to a road rage incident that just occurred. The officer spoke to the caller and learned that the caller had been traveling south on Highway 35 and had to stop quickly to avoid a collision with a black SUV that entered the roadway from the jug handle from Kings Highway, according to a press release from the police department.

The driver of the black SUV, Gordon C. Irons, 21, Long Branch, followed the caller to the parking lot of a nearby business. Once both vehicles were stopped, Irons exited his vehicle and began cursing and then began kicking at the passenger side door of the caller's vehicle causing dents to the door. Irons then returned to his vehicle and left the area.

The vehicle was located a short time later by Malone and Irons was taken into custody. He was assisted by Patrolmen Michael Legg and Alon Bercovicz. Additionally, the officers located hypodermic syringes and numerous items of drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, which were determined to be owned by the vehicle's passenger, Sara Gremminger, 24, Long Branch, police said. She was also placed under arrest.

Irons was charged with Criminal Mischief, Assault by Physical Menace, and Harassment. Gremminger was charged with Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both subjects were later released on a complaint-summons.
