Monmouth U. students give back to community

WEST LONG BRANCH - Monmouth University's Student Government Association will host a one-day community service project Oct. 20.

The seventh annual Big Event is designed to incorporate the services of students, faculty, staff and local high school students to meet the needs of the local community.

Over the years, Big Event volunteers have helped the SPCA in Eatontown, cleaned beaches in Long Branch, spent a day with senior citizens in Ocean Grove and painted murals at grade schools in Ocean Township, to name a few.

Students will start the day on campus and then be bused to work sites to perform service projects, such as painting, cleaning, clearing brush or visiting senior-citizen centers and working with schoolchildren.

The focus of the Big Event is to express gratitude to surrounding communities for their support and to promote the view of Monmouth University as a good neighbor.
