MU club to host fundraiser The Lance Cpl. Christopher Cosgrove 3- on-3 Basketball Tournament will be held Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Monmouth University's Boylan Gymnasium. Sponsored by the Monmouth University Political Science Club, the event benefits Marines Helping Marines. Cosgrove, a Monmouth University alumnus, lost his life serving as a Marine in Iraq in October 2006. Marines Helping Marines supports injured Marine Corps personnel being treated at Bethesda (Md.) National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. The program supports injured troops by providing phone cards, special pants for amputees, electric razors, and other needed items. The nonprofit also arranges baseball games and barbecues and organizes weekly parties for hospital staff and visiting families. There is a $1 admission fee as well as a $15 team registration fee, and the monies collected will go to the charity. Charlene Cosgrove-Bowie and Arthur Bowie, the mother and stepfather of Christopher Cosgrove are scheduled to speak at this event. For information, contact Eric Sedler at (201) 776-4028 or Eric.L.Sedler@monmouth.edu. |
