RBC girls are second at SC Invitational
BY TIM MORRIS Staff Writer
Saturday's SAT tests kept Monsignor Donovan and Red Bank Catholic from fielding their full squads for the first of many meetings this fall, the Shore Coaches Invitational at Holmdel Park.

The two girls cross-country powers have been ranked in the Northeast Region throughout the season, with RBC currently at number seven.

Monsignor Donovan won the first showdown between the programs by capturing the Varsity D Division, 37-94.

Michelle Capozzi led the Caseys with her eighth place finish (20:44). Emily Rooney (20:35) and Katie Rochford (21:08) were 12th and 20th. Rounding out the RBC scorers were Kim Hogan (21:22) and Molly McNamara (21:41) in 26 and 30th.

RBC and Monsignor Donovan could meet five more times before the season ends next month.

Rumson-Fair Haven's girls had a solid day at the races finishing sixth (196) in the stacked D Division.

Samantha O'Brien paced the Bulldogs in 16th place (20:49). Hannah Satzke was 25th (21:22).

For the boys, RFH's Max Sparshatt was 20th (17:40 in the Varsity D race as the Bulldogs finished 15th (364).

Shore Regional's Zach Collier was 14th overall (17:37) in Varsity E helping the Blue Devils finish 10th (270).

Next up, area harriers are at the Monmouth County Championships at Holmdel Park. With defending champion Colts Neck suddenly vulnerable, the Caseys have a chance to win this one. Howell is also in the mix.

The individual title is wide open depending on the condition of Colts Neck's injured Briana Jackucewicz. If she runs, she's the odds on favorite.

If not, Howell's Lindsey Lambert, Freehold Township's Janel Parker, Colts Neck's Allison Linnell and last year's runner up, Mater Dei's Marie Walsh, are the leading contenders.

Christian Brothers Academy is the defending boys champion and based on their win in the A Divison at the Shore Coaches, the Colts will repeat.

Manalapan's Robby Andrews and Holmdel's George Galasso should battle it out for the individual title.

Last year's champions, Craig Forys and Ashley Higginson, both from Colts Neck, are now running in college.
