Police recover stolen items, charge suspect
BY CHRISTINE VARNO Staff Writer

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - - Township police responded to Target Greatland in the Seaview Mall last week after receiving a report of a shoplifting in progress at the store.

Police arrested Lionel D. Barksdale, 34, of Long Branch, on Sept. 12 at approximately 1:20 p.m. after Target Loss Prevention reported that he was observed shoplifting, according to police reports. Barksdale was taken into custody by the officers without incident, according to reports.

Further investigation by police revealed that Barksdale entered Target, allegedly removed an LCD television from the shelf and attempted to fraudulently return the television for a cash refund using a receipt from a previous purchase, according to police.

Barksdale was also found to have concealed merchandise inside a shopping bag, police said.

Additional investigation revealed that Barksdale had also shoplifted merchandise from Value City stores in Ocean Township and Manalapan and from Target in Manalapan, according to police reports.

Police recovered the following stolen property from the Barkdale's residence; four DVD recorders, an LCD television, an iPod and two DVD players, according to reports.

Barksdale was charged with theft by deception and shoplifting and additional charges are pending further investigation, according to police.

A second subject, Wilna Toussaint, 21, of Asbury Park, was also taken into custody outside the store where she was found waiting in a vehicle for Barksdale, according to reports.

Police said Toussaint was charged with conspiracy and her car was seized by police pending civil forfeiture,
