Repaving to close parts of Oceanport Ave., Ocean Blvd.

OCEANPORT - Oceanport Avenue will be closed to traffic on Oct. 4 and 6 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., from Main Street to Port-au-Peck Avenue, for repaving, according to the Monmouth County Division of Highways.

Another local road to be closed as part of the county's 2007 road resurfacing program is Ocean Boulevard in Long Branch. That roadway will be closed from Morris to Cedar avenues on Oct. 3, 5, 9 and 10 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Ken Elmer, the highway supervisor, said Tuesday.

Under the program, the county has repaved some 16 county roadways and the Hall of Records parking lot in Freehold this year, according to Elmer, who added that several other projects will take place before the end of the year.

The county has spent $2.6 million, through competitive bidding, on its repaving projects for 2007, Elmer said.

The Oceanport Avenue project will cost $80,000 and will comprise approximately 2,300 square feet, or just under a halfmile, according to Elmer. The Ocean Boulevard project came in at $380,000 and includes repaving 1.1 mile of roadway, Elmer added.

The costs of the projects include milling, paving and striping of the roadways, he said.

"Monmouth County tries to keep up with road resurfacing so we don't have to repair piecemeal," Elmer said.
