Thomas Bistocchi, of Ocean Township, was recently named a member of the board of commissioners of The Middle States Association Commission on Secondary Schools. Bistocchi currently serves as superintendent of schools for Union County vocational-technical schools.

As a member of the Middle States Commission, Bistocchi will help promote the improvement of secondary education through accreditation and foster communication between secondary schools and institutions of higher education.

St. Michael's High School in Jersey City is hosting a multiclass reunion Sept. 15 in the school cafeteria on North Street. An alumni Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m., followed by a casual attire reunion.

The cost of the event is $40, which includes an open buffet, live music and a 50/50 raffle to benefit St. Michael's Church. Nonalcoholic beverages will be provided and the event is BYOB. For more information, call (201) 823-3532.

The Long Branch Concordance Family Success Center (LBCFSC) is selling 50/50 cash raffle tickets for $10 in conjunction with its Brewsips fundraiser.

Brewsips will be held at the Shore Institute of the Contemporary Arts, 20 Third Ave., Nov. 1 and will feature a beer and bellini tasting, drink and dine silent auction, and the drawing of the raffle.

Only 500 tickets will be sold. Brewsips event tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door.

The board of the Long Branch Concordance announced that Darcy Dobens has assumed the position of executive director of the nonprofit agency. Dobens has been involved with the LBC for several years, serving as the group's finance director.

Previous LBC executive director Debi Heptig resigned her position to become head of a new fund-raising program with Monmouth Cares Legal Services.

The Oceanport Hook & Ladder Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary on Main Street will host a vendor day Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors for the event are needed; the cost of a table is $25. Clients from The Arc of Monmouth's Work Opportunity Center in Long Branch recently visited the Ronald McDonald House on Bath Avenue in Long Branch to bring a van full of soda-can tabs and take a tour of the facility.

The soda-can tabs are sold to a recycling center and the funds are used to buy eggs, butter, bread and milk for the families that stay at the house, according to a press release from The Arc.

The Long Branch public schools system and the Wave of Hope Foundation presented the Cancer Institute of New Jersey Foundation with a check for $27,000 recently. The funds were raised in June at the second annual "Wave of Hope Walk for Cancer Research."

The FRA PossAbilities Walk & Tech- Expo will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Atlantic Club in Manasquan from 12:30- 3:30 p.m. The one-mile walk will celebrate the abilities and accomplishments of children and adults with special needs. There will also be games, face-painting, music by the PACman band and Dancing with Jay. FRA is seeking sponsors and walkers to raise awareness, funds and hope. Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome.
