Bridge collapse could be played out on Route 36

I hope that the bridge collapse in Minnesota is a wake-up call. I also hope that all those in Monmouth County who oppose the new bridge on Route 36 between Highlands and Sea Bright/Sandy Hook are paying attention. That bridge is obsolete and in bad condition. The cost of repairs equated to dollars spent per year of expected life will be far greater than a new bridge that will have a longer life. A waste of taxpayers' money.

And I ask you, would you want your children to ride in a school bus over it?

I hope the powers that be do not knee-jerk to those few individuals who selfishly want to stop the building of a new bridge for such self-centered reasons as "their view will change."
