'Hip Hop Wiz' on stage at JCC

Forty young actors and dancers will take the stage at the Jewish Community Center's Axelrod Performing Arts Center for a special performance of "Hip Hop Wiz."

The performance features specially arranged songs from the "Wizard of Oz," "Wicked" and "The Wiz," flavored with a dose of pop music and disco tunes.

The actors and dancers range in age from third to eighth grade.

Ashley Tisdale songs will also be performed in tribute to the "Disney's High School Musical" star who performed as a child in the JCC's Youth Performing Arts program.

"Hip Hop Wiz" is directed by Marlyn Michaels of Ocean Township, who is celebrating her 25th year as director of the JCC's Youth Performing Arts program. The performance is choreographed by Morris Beyda of Deal, and produced by Frieda Shalam of Allenhurst.

Performances of "Hip Hop Wiz" will be Sunday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m., and Monday, Aug. 27, at 8 p.m. at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center, 100 Grant Ave., Deal Park.

Tickets are $20 and are available at the box office at (732) 531-9100, ext. 142. Proceeds will support JCC youth programs.
