White Water Evening to raise autism awareness
SEA BRIGHT - The Surfers' Environmental Alliance (SEA) is organizing the first surf paddle around the island of Manhattan.
The invitation-only, 28-mile paddle will take place Monday, Aug. 13, and will be completed by about 50 participants, including some of the biggest names in surfing.
Participants will be on stand-up paddleboards and traditional surfboards. All proceeds will benefit Surfers Healing, Autism Speaks, NJCOSAC and SEA.
Two days prior to the event, SEA will host the SEA Paddle NYC White Water Evening to raise additional funds and awareness for the four organizations.
The white-themed event will take place Saturday, Aug. 11, at a beachfront estate in Monmouth Beach. The event will feature some of surfing's greatest legends.
The event will feature a silent and live auctions with items including surf memorabilia; a custom-painted Drew Brophy paddleboard; hand-shaped surfboards by the master shaper and legendary surfer Gerry Lopez, who will also be in attendance; a surfing experience at Darrick Doerner's Surf Education Adventures in Oahu; a ski-in and ski-out snowboarding package with Gerry Lopez in Steamboat, Colo.; fighter pilot and race car driver experiences; and many other items.
"SEA Paddle NYC will help create awareness of our organization's fight to preserve our coastal waterways, while raising money for a condition that is more prevalent in New Jersey than any other state," said Andrew Mencinsky, executive director of SEA.
