The Wave of Hope Foundation raised $26,000 during the annual "Wave of Hope" walk in June sponsored by the Long Branch Public School District. The walk takes place annually to raise money for research and education programs at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey Foundation, New Brunswick. A check presentation was held July 30.

The Long Branch Concordance Family Success Center (LBCFSC) will host a "Back to Basics" fair 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 25 at Slocum Park, Slocum and Broadway. New York Times best-selling author Dorothea Benton Frank brings her latest novel, "The Land of Mango Sunsets," to the Jersey Shore for Book It! a charity raffle Aug. 15, 7-10 p.m., at McLoone's Riverside restaurant in Sea Bright. The event will benefit Alyssa's Angels, a group supporting Monmouth County's disabled children and their families. The evening's charity raffle proceeds benefit the handicap-accessible playground Alyssa's Angels is building in West Long Branch. All guests will receive a personally autographed copy of Dot's book. The Long Branch Public School District is hosting a Veterans Memorial Golf Outing Aug. 27 at Sun Eagles Golf Club at Fort Monmouth. The event will have a 1 p.m. shotgun start; dinner will follow. The cost is $150 and proceeds will benefit the creation of The Long Branch Public Schools Veterans Memorial.
