Police: Suspect tried to lure 2 girls in park

LONG BRANCH - A 40-year-old man is facing sexual assault charges for allegedly attempting to lure two young girls at a local park in Long Branch.

According to Long Branch police, on July 14 at approximately 9 p.m., officers responded to West End Park after receiving a report that a suspicious man had approached two 5-year-old girls.

The man, identified as David Rasch of Weehawken, allegedly asked the girls to sit with him on a park bench away from the playground area, according to police reports.

The girls ran from the man to their parents who were standing nearby, according to police reports, which state that the parents then observed Rasch committing a lewd act.

Rasch was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of sexual assault. He was released later that night after posting 10 percent of a $20,000 bail, according to police. A court date for Rasch is to be set at a later date.
