Long Branch neglects upkeep of Green Acres site

We've been reading a lot lately about the Green Acres section of Ocean Avenue in Long Branch that Mayor Adam Schneider and some of the council members want to open up to traffic.

We walk on that road all the time. Our children and their friends use that road for recreation. How can the city want to place traffic on this pedestrian-friendly strip of land? Have they been up there themselves to see how much it's used? This is protected open space. People use it all the time.

If Mayor Schneider or the council members took a stroll on the road, they'd realize that adding traffic would be reprehensible. Instead of allowing traffic, they should be advocating the restoration of this space. It can use a major face-lift. Currently, its condition is deplorable.

Citizens were told a few years ago that Hovnanian would fix up and beautify this area. We're still waiting! In the meantime, we have a rickety boardwalk, a rusted fence and portable toilets. Would the residents of Pier Village and the surrounding condominiums and townhouses have to wait years to have their toilets and showers repaired or replaced? We think not.

We say, "Shame on the politicians for neglecting this Green Acres site."
