The Student Government Association (SGA) is seeking community groups that want to be included in the annual "Big Event," a one-day community service project designed to incorporate the services of students, faculty and staff to the needs of the local community Oct. 6.

Over the years, Big Event volunteers have helped the SPCA in Eatontown, cleaned beaches in Long Branch, spent a day with senior citizens in Ocean Grove, and more. The SGA is accepting job requests from local social service agencies and senior citizen centers, schools, churches, police stations and municipal organizations, as well as local government. The deadline for completed work site applications is Friday, Sept. 21.

Students will spend the day performing service projects as a way to express their gratitude to the surrounding communities for their support.

Local members of the community are encouraged to send applications for activities ranging from beach cleanups to food pantries. Groups should contact Brandon Bosque, SGA president, at (732) 406-6174 or Mia Schwerin, SGA Big Event coordinator, at (732) 272-8691.
