Michael's Feat BBQ to be held July 28

The Michael Gerard Puharic Memorial Fund (Michael's Feat) will mark seven years since the passing of Adam and Dana Puharic's son, Michael, at its upcoming annual charity barbecue event.

The Michael's Feat Summertime Family Barbecue will take place from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the picnic grounds of St. Clement Church on Route 79 in Matawan. Tickets to the fundraiser are $15, $8 for children ages 4-10, and free for children age 3 and under. Ticket price includes barbecue foods, beverages, live entertainment, crafts, face-painting, inflatable rides and much more.

As part of the special seventh anniversary celebration, Michael's Feat will honor Michael Tidwell, sales and marketing manager of the Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch, and Lynn Conover, partner of the Curchin Group in Red Bank.

As they do each year, Michael's Feat will present the Heather Rose Tribute to Courage Award to a family that has displayed grace, bravery and strength in caring for their seriously ill newborn.

Another annual feature of the event is the Michael's Feat super 50/50 with a maximum $10,000 first-place prize, and $1,250 for second- and third-place prizes. Super 50/50 tickets are $100, with only 250 printed.

The Michael Gerard Puharic Memorial Fund Inc. has been established to support, comfort and ease the burden for parents caring for seriously ill newborns.

The fund was created in memory of the Puharics' newborn son Michael, who died 83 hours after birth due to a chromosome disorder.

Michael's Feat provides support through the donation of needed items enabling parents to care for their ill children. More than $150,000 in benefits have been provided since the fund's inception in October 2000.
