Ode to eminent domain

First they came and took the Pit,

Nobody spoke up,

Not a bit!

Then they came for Bruce McCloud,

Nobody spoke up,

At least not very loud!

Then MTOTSA was the bait,

MTOTSA spoke up,

City said, "Too late!"

After that they took the Ranch,

Only Elberon spoke up,

'Cause they're not Long Branch!

Next they came for Lower Broadway,

Only businesses spoke up,

That wanted to stay!

After that, it was Ta-ka-na-ssee,

Historians spoke up,

But condos it will be!

They came for the Green Acres road in June

Thirty-eight hundred spoke up,

City said, "Too soon!"

Now you know just what to do,

Stand up with others,

Or they'll come for you!

If you, too, are tired of me having to write,

Pick up your pen,

And take over the fight!

Barbara Gonos
